My entire life I have always sworn up and down that my eyesight was perfect. I could read signs from far away perfectly! So I never ever went to an eye doctor. The only problem I did have was night time driving if there were ever headlights coming towards me, they just seemed SOO bright!
Eventually, after much convincing from the spouse and a recommendation from my sister in law, I made an appointment. Come to find out that I have an astigmatism, and I'm farsighted. Hmmm, that explains it. The astigmatism is related to the shape of the cornea (most peoples are round, whereas mines like a football) and how light reflects into it. That's why oncoming headlights were so BRIGHT! Then there's the farsightedness. I can see best when things are far away but when they are close up...not so much. This was the part that shocked me most when I put the glasses on for the first time. I can SEE!! I had no idea what I was missing! I don't have to where them all the time, just when needed, and of course whenever I drive at night. I find myself wearing them all the time, simply because I am fascinated by how well I can see!
