Sleepover Saturday

Since Allie was about 2, she and her Daddy started this tradition of having 'sleep overs' in her room on Saturday nights. Jason sets out blankets and pillows, they play and read books awhile and then fall asleep.  At some point before I go to bed, I go wake Jason up and he comes to bed with me.  I used to think this idea was crazy, I'll be honest.  We didn't have a kid who we needed to break from sleeping in our bed and I had always been so so careful of this. I felt like it could possibly create a 'monster' and Allie would expect this every night.  Fortunately, that never did happen. They nicknamed the day "Sleep Over Saturday" and look forward to it all week.  She even is very understanding about weekends when "Sleep Over Saturday" cannot happen, for whatever reason, so this has actually been a very pleasant event for everyone.

Up until very recently, Ryan wasn't even interested in joining them. When it comes to bed time, he's very serious and all business. He has relaxed his rules on bedtimes and begun asking to join the sleep over festivities. I cannot believe  I never once have thought of taking pictures of this weekly occurrence before, but last week it finally came to me that I need to capture the memory before that was all it was.  I hope they remember this forever. It is one of the many reasons my husband is such a good father to his children.  We are all so blessed!

Allie's room looks like a mess in these pictures, but that's usually what happens in this room on Saturdays.  She is pretty good about cleaning it all up in the morning (most of the time). Sometimes Allie falls asleep on the floor with them, but now that Ry has joined the mix, she usually falls asleep in her bed...with about 500 other things.

I took these pictures in the pitch dark and the flash from my camera just lit up the room.  Only one person moved during all my picture taking and no one woke up. They. were. OUT.
