St. Patricks Day 2012

St. Patricks day signaled the first day of Spring Break for me and we have been enjoying every minute.  We have done lots of things some days and absolutely nothing on others. It has been fantastic.  Last year, (though I didn't post about it last year) I went all out of St. Patricks Day.  It's fun for my kids and for me :) I promised my children when they were born that I would give them the memorable, innocent and happy childhood that I had.  I think building traditions is very memorable. Allie remembered every detail about last years Leprechaun visit of mischievousness while we slept  on the eve of St. Patty's day, but Ry looked as like we were crazy. He might have been a little frightened too as he kept asking when the little Leprechaun was coming. I tried my hardest to make it sound innocent and fun, but I'm not sure he was buying it.

In my Kindergarten class, we made a leprechaun trap and set it up in the classroom. The next morning, we came back to find our classroom topsy-turvy.  Funnest thing ever! The kids about lost their minds! I love it when I make believer out of them.

That night, brought home the trap for us to use. The kids were all over that idea. It was made from a Pringles can that we covered with green paper. We made a ladder from popsicle sticks and covered the top of the can with a tissue. We carefully placed a 'gold' coin on top of the tissue. The idea was to get our leprechaun to climb the ladder to get the gold and fall in the can as soon as he stepped on the tissue.
The kids posing with their trap.
The kids also put their shoes out to see if the leprechaun will fill it with treats. The kids were so excited about that that they set out every pair of shoes the could find! haha! I forgot to get a picture of that.

The next morning, we woke up to the fact that we had not caught the little green man.  He took the gold and did a few other things...

He opened every cabinet in our kitchen, turned the kitchen chairs down and put the trash can in the middle of the room.

He put mustaches on all our framed pictures. The kids thought this was so funny!

He left his hat.  He took our jar of gold candy that was on our shelves. It had Reese's and gold coin chocolates. He also left a note!

He left foot prints down the hall

He turned our milk green too! Ryan was so grossed out by it he wouldn't go near it for anything.

This is where we ended up finding all the stolen 'gold': in the regridgerator! ha!

This may or may not be the reason Ryan was so grossed out by the green milk. He thought it was the same leprechaun pee that we found in the toilet!

When I told the kids to leave their shoes out for the leprechaun to fill with treats, they went and grabbed all their shoes 'just in case'! ha! They crack me up!
