This year, my school calendar changed to a more traditional one. At first it was pretty hard to get used to because of not having Halloween-Thanksgiving break I was used to. I knew that I would be happy about the change once Christmas vacation came though. It used to be we only got 10 days off, usually the day before Christmas Eve was our last day and our first day back was the day after New Years. This year I got a whopping 3 1/2 weeks off (that started a whole week and a half BEFORE Christmas)! Woot! Unfortunately, my husband's (who teaches for the same district as I do) school has not changed to the traditional calendar yet, he is still on the old one. He had to go to work until the 22nd. It was a long road since August for me, but it is so worth it because now I have time to do fun Christmas activities with my own children. Like... making gingerbread houses in our jammies! We bought a pre made house from Target, all we had to do was decorate it. Which is a good thing, because with my 2 kids there is no way they would have the patience to wait for me to build the house AND the pre built one was a whole dollar cheaper than the one you have to build. Go figure! I guess putting it together is half the fun? Putting it together is frustrating to me, so I was glad to be able to for go that part.
