My 'Pinterest' Cake

I love it when my Mama's birthday comes because she gives me free reign over what kind of cake she gets. I make a cake for everyone's birthday on my side of the family, plus the kids and hubby's birthday cakes in all. If you count them up I bake 9 (birthday) cakes a year at least! And every single one of them picks the kind of cake I make - except my Mom. She lets me surprise her. So this year, I found a cake I was dying to make from pinterest. It was a 6 layer cake COVERED in sprinkles. The best part was cutting the sucker open. Each of the 6 layers was a different shade of purple (Allie picked the purple). It took me quite a few hours AND I think I used the hardest frosting recipe known to man but it was delicious if I do say so myself. I used a box mix, because who can go wrong with Betty Crocker?
The top view of the cake. It was supposed to be  covered in sprinkles on the side too, but it was pretty hard, and messy, to make the sprinkles cover the sides. I did use the entire bottle of sprinkles too!

The cake looks like its on fire! Its not though. Just lit with 51 candles.  A very proud 51 candles I might add. My mother is very proud of her 51 candles :) Can you tell?

I was VERY excited to cut the cake open to see how it turned out. It was PERFECT!

Here is the link on how to make the cake. I only pretty much followed the 'how to assemble'. I did not use any of the recipes.  I also used chocolate instead of butter cream frosting. http://www.raspberricupcakes.com/2011/11/purple-ombre-sprinkle-cake.html
