A HUGE Relief!

With all the buzz going around about budget cuts in education it has been quite a roller coaster ride for Jason and I. First we are told San Bernardino Unified would be safe, then we were told they were pink slipping everyone who has been there under 5 years, then we were told no, then maybe but dont worry about it and finally....yes, its inevitable. Our district is set to cut 155 teachers most all of them 1st years and interns and then some 2nd year teachers. Jason and I are both 2nd year teachers set to get our tenure at the beginning of the next coming school year. We were really, really nervous but found out that they had to legally notify us by March 15th or they couldnt implement lay offs if they had to. These letters were intended to be 'may' letters...as in you may not have a job next or you may have a job next year. It would be up in the air until a final decision was made on May 15th. Luckily, March 15th came and went and there was no letter at our door. When Jason returned to school after our Mammoth trip he found out that all of the 1st year teachers had indeed recieved theirs on March 15th. SO that really let us know that we are safe! ...Until next year (but we'll be tenured, Thank Goodness!). I dont know what we would have done, Im just so thankful I get to keep my job, we get to keep our jobs. Plus, I found out that those 'may' letters weren't actually 'may' letters at all, they are 'shall' letters, as in you shall NOT have a job next year and thats final!

P.S. Arnold Schwarzenegger, you suck!

Jon went through the same thing at his district - we were beyond stressed! Fortunately, he still has his job, but we are still crossing our fingers for next year!

Yay...my other friend Amanda might not have her job next year... :( So much stress, although teaching isn't stressful enough as it is.
