Schafer House of Sickies

The sickies have come to visit us and I think they've wore out their welcome. Not that they ever were welcome...
First it started with me and the purple table.
What's the purple table you ask? It's the sick table in my kindergarten room. One by one students who sit at the purple table have come down with a bad cold/flu and have been out for a few days. This includes students in the morning class (I'm afternoon Kinder). Somehow, I lingered a little too long at the purple table and caught their mamonga plague. I had a sore throat for like 3 days, I just knew I was coming down with something. Then it hit me last Friday...and I actually saw it coming. It started with a cough. One of those yucky sounding coughs and then...

It was like having a man cold. It was awful. Super Bowl Sunday morning I thought my eyeballs were going to pop out of my head with all the pressure and I just felt awful. So I took my sick self to the Urgent Care and was told simply, 'sorry, you have a cold, deal with it. Goodbye.'

oh yeah, 'take Benedryl'.

Do I did and it worked. I still today have a lingering cough but I feel fine.

But 2 days after I went to the doctor I heard Allie cough that very same awful cough.

Oh no.

She got it too and had the same exact symptoms. I could even tell her eyes hurt like mine did. So I did all I could Vick's -ed her up, used a vaporizer, lots of water, set out blankets and pillows, Tylenol for pain and fever and she got through it. She even slept well at night.

2 days later...Ryan coughs the cough.

Double oh no.

I've since taken him to the Urgent Care twice. His cough actually sounds like croup and his chest is so congested that when he cries no sound comes out. Poor lil guy. The first night he slept 1 hour, which means so did I. And no nap. Last night he only woke up twice and went back to sleep. This morning he was coughing and wheezing and panting so bad, it was scary! So I took him back to the doctor and got a prescription. I hope it works because it is heart breaking to see him like this. My poor lil man!

I've heard it recommended to run a hot shower until the bathroom is steamy, then hang out in there for a while and let him play with toys or whatever until you run out of hot water and the steam goes away.

Hope they feel better soon!
