This crazy little girl of mine…
…decided to throw her Daddy and I for a loop yesterday. What craziness it was to witness my daughter limping early Sunday afternoon, to see it get progressively worse as the day wore on…until she woke up Monday morning unable to walk. You mothers out there would agree that is pretty terrifying.
That is exactly what happened to me.
The limping on Sunday was a little strange but we decided to just watch it till Wednesday because we knew that her fear of the doctor would take over and the doctor would see no limp. Sort of that Fight or Flight thing. But on Monday morning I cried as I watched her crawl down the hall from her bedroom all the way to the kitchen after only taking 2 very rough steps. She didn’t ever show any sign of pain. No wincing, no crying (save for me), nothing. It was as if not being able to walk were totally normal for her.
I decided that she needed to go to the doctor immediately so I ran down to my school at 6 AM, laid out some sub plans and headed back home to wait for the doctor’s office to open. So to bide my time, I did the stupidest thing a parent could do and went online to look up “suddenly limping toddler”. SCARED.THE.BEE.JEEZES.OUT.OF.ME.
broken bones
tumors
joint inflammation as a result of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (which runs in my family)
cancer
*shudders* The list of abominable things came flying at me that I had to stop. I was scaring myself. So we took her to the doctor at 9ish and as usual she flipped out. I could not believe my eyes when we were trying to show the doctor that she wouldn’t walk, she just ran right too me terrified out of her mind. He said he could see a slight limp and decided X rays were necessary.
That was fun.
He also said that when a toddler suddenly limps it could be anything from their lower back to their baby toe.
An hour later the doctor called to say the X Rays were completely clear (whew!) and to just watch her for 2 days. (BTW, she wouldn’t walk once we got home…she was right back to crawling the rest of the day)
This morning Allie woke up miraculously healed. Amazing. I have no idea what could have been wrong with her for 36 hours but she’s fine now. I, along with others, have come up with a long list of things it could have been:
stubbed toe
growing pains
shoes too small
our tile floors
kicked something too hard
leg fell asleep
bruise that we can’t see
slept on it wrong
muscle cramps or soreness
pulled muscle…
I don’t think we will ever know what it was. I am just glad she is better.

That must have been so terrifying! I probably would have done exactly what you did and scared myself before going to the doctor :) Glad she is miraculously healed!
oh so scary! it's awful when you think your child is hurting! Glad she is a-ok!
What a scary thing to go through! Maybe since Ryan is crawling more, she thinks it's fun?!?! I dunno, just trying to come up with more ideas! Thank goodness, she is ok!
